If you are one of these people, you would have likely to turn off quite a few people in your life. People tend to stand at safe distance when talking to you. To freshen your breath permanently and effectively, you will need to first determine the cause of your breath condition.

Causes of Bad Breath
There are many causes of bad breath with some being chronic conditions and others being short term causes. Here is a list of the more common ones.

1. Your Diet- Food like garlic and onion can affect your breath condition adversely, even after they have been swallowed. This usually happens because the active ingredients of these foods have entered the blood stream and are released during exhalation.

Brushing and flossing can mask the smell a little but as long as the odour continues to be exhaled as you breathe, your breath will still stink. Luckily, ‘garlic breath’ tends to fade after a couple of hours.

2. Your habits- Habits like drinking and smoking are major causes of bad breath too. This is due to the fact that there is an aftertaste left in the mouth and an odour from the lungs. Affecting oral health and causing gum diseases to worsen, continuous smoking and drinking can only worsen your breath condition.

3. Oral health- Plaque build up which in turn causes small pockets to appear between the teeth and gums is another major contributor. These pockets are often filled with leftover food particles- a food paradise for bad breath causing bacteria.

When this happens, normal brushing or flossing will not be sufficient to remove these bacteria.
