Halitosis and Stomach Problems

Halitosis and Stomach Problems

Many people do not realize that there is a connection between halitosis and stomach problems. What causes bad breath? Halitosis, or bad breath, can be caused by a number of things, including:

What is the connection between halitosis and stomach disorders? The mouth is the very beginning of the digestive tract. Next comes the esophagus, and then the stomach. Problems with the stomach can easily affect the mouth.

You can prevent halitosis in general by maintaining good oral hygiene and addressing what causes bad breath. Avoid spicy and “strong” foods, or brush your teeth immediately after eating them. If eating certain foods upsets your stomach, it will probably also cause you bad breath. So avoiding those foods can help both your stomach and your breath. Don’t smoke, brush your teeth after every meal, and floss daily.

Visit your dentist regularly. It is recommended that you see your dentist every six months for a check up and routine cleaning. This will help prevent and identify any problems such as gum disease. Early identification and treatment can help prevent them from causing bad breath. Your dentist may also be able to help diagnose halitosis and stomach problems.

If you have chronic sinus or allergy problems, see your doctor to get this treated. It can cause bad breath if not treated.

You may also be able to prevent halitosis and stomach problems by seeing you doctor regularly. See your doctor if you begin to experience any sort of stomach problems or discomfort.

The best treatment for halitosis and stomach problems depends on the exact nature of the stomach disorder. As mentioned earlier, if you have chronic or severe stomach trouble, you should see a doctor for treatment. If you have bad breath and good oral hygiene and a trip to the dentist doesn’t solve the problem, you could have stomach problems you don’t know about. A visit to the doctor might be a good idea.

Digestive disorders that cause bad breath may or may not be serious enough to warrant medical treatment. Medication will generally be prescribed for the underlying condition, and as the medical problem clears up, so will your breath.

If stomach problems are not what causes bad breath in your case, or if treating your stomach problems medically does not eliminate your bad breath, you’ll want to look at other options.

Some people prefer to try natural products to treat their halitosis and stomach problems, particularly if medical treatment is not required or if medical treatment has not successfully cured their bad breath. Natural products for bad breath can generally be used in conjunction with medications for stomach disorders, but check with your doctor to make sure.

See a doctor if you have halitosis and stomach problems that persist or if your stomach problems are severe. If you have bad breath that doesn’t clear up with good oral hygiene and a visit to the dentist, see your doctor to make sure you don’t have some underlying digestive problems you aren’t aware of. Ask your doctor if stomach problems are what causes bad breath in your case.
