How to Kill Bad Breath

How to Kill Bad Breath

Every day, millions of people wake up across the world wanting to know how to kill bad breath. The foul, obnoxious odor that comes from their mouth, wafting from their tongue and teeth, plagues them on a daily basis because they have chronic bad breath, or halitosis. If you are one of these people, then you too want to learn how to kill bad breath once and for all. After all, bad breath is not a sign of good dental health or hygiene, and is also makes social interaction very awkward for you and the person with whom you are speaking. This article will teach you ways to kill bacteria in your mouth, and will help you find a bad breath cure to get rid of those foul odors that have been irking you for so long.

The first thing is to understand what causes bad breath. There are two kinds of bad breath: the normal kind that happens to everyone (and I do mean everyone), and the chronic, persistent, ongoing kind that is more related to dental hygiene than anything else. Everyone becomes stricken with bad breath on a daily basis. Have you ever woken up and recoiled from smelling your partner’s breath – or your own? That is called morning breath, and is caused by bacteria building up in your mouth while you sleep. Even if you brush your teeth before going to bed, you will have bacteria develop. Think of them as an ever-present thing on your teeth, gums, tongue, and other parts of your mouth.

The other type – chronic bad breath – is known as halitosis (technically all bad breath is halitosis, but here I use the term to denote the ongoing variety). Chronic bad breath, like the name says, happens all the time, for reasons that appear to be unknown. This is why it is so frustrating; we do not know why our breath keeps smelling, and why the odor persists. One of the leading causes of bad breath is related to dental health. If your teeth have cavities, fillings, abscesses, or any other kind of problem, then that can cause bad breath. Bacteria love to gather in weak spots in the teeth and dwell, because it is harder for you to clean those areas (particularly if you have cavities in between your teeth).

Another cause of bacteria is not brushing or caring for your mouth regularly. Humans are awake, on average, for 16 hours a day. Bacteria gather in your mouth for 24 hours a day, every single day of the year. We are already outmatched. What is worse is that we usually only brush once or twice a day, and rarely floss (on average). This creates a perfect breeding ground for bacteria, which is bad; this bacteria causes the noxious odors to come up and cause an unpleasant smell.

So, with this in mind, how do you kill bacteria? The obvious solution right off the bat is to brush your teeth. You should brush your teeth after you eat, plus right before you go to bed. And do not just brush for a few seconds each time; put an ample amount of toothpaste on your brush and cover all surfaces – your teeth, the upper and lower gum, the roof of your mouth, the sides, and your tongue. Take extra care in brushing your tongue – most of the odor comes from the tongue.

You should also be flossing regularly. Whether or not you use the plain old dental floss or special hygienic flossing tools, you should be trying to get rid of that food in between your teeth. If left there it will smell, as well as attract bacteria.

The next thing you can do on a routine basis is to chew sugarless gum. If you chew gum when you’re not eating, you will get your saliva going, which is your body’s dental cleaning mechanism. Plus, you will not give bacteria time to settle. Make sure it is sugarless gum too; gum with sugar could rot your teeth.

For more information on how to kill bad breath, and suggestions of products that you can buy, I recommend asking your dentist. They will definitely be ready to help you as much as they can. But the information in this article is a great start, and should get you on the road to freedom and independence from your bad breath.
