My baby has bad breath,help?
First, it’s normal to not have any teeth, don’t worry about that.
Second, it could be milk? My son drinks so much milk and gets a coating on his tongue, he used to not let me brush his tongue and it was so gross and smelly. They have gum massager things and baby toothpaste, I would brush out his mouth! It’s good to get the kid used to it anyway, less fighting when he does have teeth!
Also, being 7 months it could be some kind of food residue… OH! Here!
What could be causing my baby’s bad breath?
Healthy children (and adults, too!) sometimes have bad breath, or halitosis. The most likely culprits: †A dry mouth. If your baby is breathing through his mouth — because he has a stuffy nose, for example — then the bacteria in his mouth are more likely to grow undisturbed.
†A foreign object. A pea, bean, small toy, or another object that your baby has put in his nose can cause him to have bad breath. This is especially common in babies and toddlers, who are notorious for putting things where they don’t belong!
†Sucking. If your baby sucks on his fingers or a pacifier, the object may develop an odor from repeated exposure to saliva and oral bacteria. A pacifier may also have other residue on it, such as old food.
†Illness or allergies. Sometimes an illness such as a sinus infection, tonsillitis, or even seasonal allergies can cause bad breath. And some children with gastroesophageal reflux, or regurgitation of their food, have foul breath. If reflux is the problem, however, your baby will almost certainly have other symptoms, such as discomfort after eating.
†Poor hygiene. Normal bacteria live in the mouth and interact with leftover food particles — between the teeth (once your baby has some), at the gum line, on the tongue, or on the surface of the tonsils at the back of your baby’s throat. This causes bad breath, especially if food is in the mouth for a long time. What can I do about bad breath?
In most cases, good oral hygiene is the answer. Try to wipe or brush your baby’s gums and any teeth after each feeding and before bedtime. You can also gently brush his tongue. (No need to use toothpaste at this age.)
Wash your baby’s hands frequently with soap and water if sucks his thumb or fingers, and wash his security objects often. If he uses a pacifier, sterilize it by running it through the dishwasher or dropping it in boiling water. Should I give my baby mouthwash?
Mouthwash will only mask the problem, and your baby certainly can’t be expected to spit it out, so no.
