Way beyond bad breath! Help!
You might want to try brushing her with a fingertip brush at home – even just a little bit of a scrub will help (and she might be more relaxed at home). We’ve also used a supplement you add to the water, there’s a couple of different name brands available at Petco/Petsmart as well as a couple at the vet. Our conclusion was it didn’t hurt but didn’t help much.
You might not want to wait too long on the dental. February is dental health month for animals and most vets offer discounts (which always helps with something big like a dental). The vet will do a quick blood panel to make sure she’s stable enough to go under for the procedure. Also, dragon breath is a wonderful breeding ground for infection (I had a diabetic cat prone to mouth issues that had to have regular dentals to keep from more serious problems setting in).
Nolvadent is the pink stuff mentioned in an above thread. We tried it on our cat and didn’t have a lot of success, never tried in for the dogs. We’re currently using a dental gel (Dentacetic) that doesn’t require as much scrubbing as a regular toothpaste (you just kinda got to get it on the teeth and gums and it takes it from there). We also use Wysong’s Dentatreat for all the animals – its a yummy powdered cheese blended filled with natural enzymes good for the mouth.
Look for parsley treats and/or add fresh chopped parsley to wet food – good for digestion and for fresh breath.
